“Papa is coming”. It became a “in”phrase at home. Yes, he was coming for his first vacation last Dec. After my birthday, it was my next chance to celebrate. The happiness was double when I thought I could celebrate my third Christmas with him.

On the Dec 21st, early morning we went to receive him at the airport. We has jut arrived , while I saw my papa was coming out of the glass door. As soon as he got near to me I jumped into his hands. I wanted to let him know that how big I had grown and how long was my hair then. (When he had left, mine was a shaven head). Through out the journey back to my home, I kept on talking to him with my bla bla bla language. I don’t know how better he understood me. My amma, grand pa and grand ma acted as bi-linguist between us.

When we reached home, I asked him to open the boxes he has brought. His trolley bag was filled with chocolates. Its just like how the three ducklings in Ducktales jumped in, I dove into the chocolates. Well, my wish then was to make sure that the other big box he brought should be full of chocolates again. But he seemed too tired and we went to sleep for the morning.

Late in the morning when he woke up, I was just before him watching as to when he was going to open his eyes. “Papa! Open the other box” I was waiting for him to deliver this sentence. I was too much excited about the other box. Well, poor my papa, he did not even take his bed coffee. He came with me and opened the box. Well no chocolates this time. But why should I be sad? Half and quarter of the box was all toys-cars, robots-“but Papa, I asked for you to get me something?” In response he smiled at me. “Wewww! Here it is my sunny”. Yea, it was the train set I specially asked for. I thanked my papa’s friend who went through a lot of struggles to get the UK made one. Rest of the other sets Papa had seen were of metal and had lots sharpened edges which could easily hurt me. But this one is of solid plastic and has seldom chance to get hurt.

The days went in haste- spent Christmas with him, outing with Syam uncle and Nimmi aunty, Aqua Tour, daily walking to lake view and play ground, funny fights, his scolds when I ease myself inside the house, sleeping on his chest. My personal feeling is a child at my age should not have a papa working abroad, else they should be in a position to take us along with them. Well Papa, 30 days were not enough.

I was born on the bright afternoon of Oct 2007. Before I talk about my second birthday, let me tell you that I have started learning words and spellings. I even know to count ‘One’, ‘Two’ and ‘Five’. Don’t ask me where three and four are. They are not game enough for me now. Well, I know to spell A-p-p-l-e. I can say Fish, Hello, Nay, Thank you, Plane, Kozhiyamma(Hen), Kakkachi(Crow) and many other words. I am still learning.

Oct 15, 2009 was my second birthday. Before that, sister aunty (elder sister of my granny, she is a nun) came to spent a few days with us. She is very fond of me and bought me some new dresses. Ah I had at least 5 pairs of new dress. On the day of my birthday, I was woken up early in the morning to go to church. I was very enthusiastic, feeling very comfortable and happy. In the evening we celebrated by giving dinner to the children at a near by orphanage. Papa and Amma are very idealistic about such things. They wanted to make my b’day meaningful. When I, Amma, Grandpa and Granny arrived at the orphanage, there were lots of innocent smiles to welcome us. They all wished me with a Happy B day Song. We had nice time together.

Throughout the day, I kept on saying to everyone that it’s Allu’s Happy Birthday. I got some gifts from the nuns at the orphanage. In the evening, it was the turn of my Amma’s students. There was a big cake waiting for me. Again I was surrounded by the same music of happy birthday. Amma’s colleagues and students gave me yet some other gifts. But the big surprise was yet to be.

I am very fond of cars. Whenever I sit in the front seat of our car, as soon as the driver’s seat is empty I jump into it and start rotating the steering, trying to pull the gear lever and press the horn. I even know to play the music in the car stereo. Inside the room, my favorite toys are cars.

The Saturday after my birthday, I became the owner of a car. Yes, a toy but a Big Car, and I’m the only driver of it. Even my grandpa and pappa are not going to drive it. When I say driving, I mean it. It has got a steering, accelerator, horn and everything that is needed for car. The only problem is: I cannot drive it on the public roads. So what? It’s in my car I go to the wash room, the kitchen and the bed room. I’m a perfect driver now.

Papa was telling, he traveled in car only at the age of 18, but his son drives his own car when he is just 2 year old. That’s the generation gap Papa, you can’t expect things to be the same as it was at your age. Moreover Papa, you can say this story if I become F1 World Champion, LOL.

There is a common question around a baby. Even if someone knows it, they keep on asking, “Who is Vava (baby) here?”. Nor I have an escape. In a day, I face these questions, who is vava and what’s the name of me. Well, now I know how to answer them. Vava is me and my name is Allu. Lol, Allu is what I call my self. Not really, many call me Allu. I think a child will have lots of names. My Papa is crazy I think. He calls me any words like ‘tappoo’, ‘dunku’, ‘sudu’, etc. those sounds cute but could not be the sensible ones. ‘Kunjappu’ was the much popular name I was called. But now it is reduced to be called by Papa and Amma. Granny calls me ‘Lity’, Grandpa, ‘Soorya’ and Uncle, ‘Gugu’. I wonder how many names are there yet to be. However now I’m called ‘Allu’ the short of my name Allan De Little Flower. I do like to call my self ‘Allu’. Ain’t that cute?

It is the beginning of Monsoon. Lots of germs are around. Despite of every warning and precautions, I had to give in to a flew. It started with vomiting and ended up with my first hospitalization. I did not feel anything different in hospital. Okay, there were lots of children and I could jam with them. First two days I was too tired and sick to enjoy the blossoms around. I was resting upon my Amma’s lap. On the third day, I was gaining my spirit and enthusiasm, that pushed away my stagnation inside the hospital room. I wanted to run from one end to the other end of the corridor. I wanted to walk down and up the stairs. I wanted to rush in to other wards and rooms. Poor my Amma. She had to put up with me.

Nurse aunts were so nice to me. But I could not bear the bitterness of the medicines they supplied. Why should I have these bitter things when I can chew the sweets and chocos sent by my Papa?. But they did not understand my bla bla bla. The syringe and needle were yet another disguise. There was a fixed needle on my right hand through which they injected antibiotics. I started hating those white ghosts who rushed in to my room having a medicinal tray in hand. I assume that not any other child can love a nurse.

Back in home, it’s my dynasty now. Amma is going to a new school. But it’s now the part of life to me. In the earlier days I used to miss her. But now I have accepted routine. With grand ma, I know to check the ratio of salt in any curries. In fact, if she does not give to me, I go to grandpa and place a complaint against her. I don’t know how he understands my complaint. But he responded to me in the right way I wished. He acts like scolding and beating her and that makes me smile. After all, everyone wants a baby to smile and be happy. See ya later.

That was the first courier addressed to me. Papa sent me coffee mug. He is adapted to the life in Dubai. He always surprises us with such a kind of gifts. And this one is with my smiling close up, pictured around the mug. Well, it can have a huge amount of coffee in it and it will be too large for me to drink. However, that is exclusively for me. Still, I’m not been permitted to use it. This is the age of tossing things. The mug is made up of clay and if it is given to me I can make it into pieces in a short while. So, for the time being it will be kept in the show-case. As I grew little more enough to keep brittles in my hand safely, it shall be given to me.

Papa sent me yet another gift. It is a somersaulting car. It turns left and right, straight and back. Moreover it somersaults. It’s a very funny kind. I named it “Bakka”. Bakka by word is a senseless and is not defined in any dictionary. For me, Bakka, means that somersaulting car. Whenever, Lichu (Lijith), my cousin comes and whenever I ask for “Bakka”, it will be on the floor remotely controlled by my Grandpa or Amma. Lichu also drives my bicycle. I like to play with him a lot. But he comes once in a fortnight or a month.

Chocolates have become a passion for me. Papa sent lots of chocolates. Amma and I are very fond of it. Poor Papa, he has to spend much money on chocolates. See, my Amma calls me. She is going to open the refrigerator. That is obviously to take the next pack of Galaxy (chocolate). See ya, I’m going to hack a bunch from her.

That day, early in the morning I woke up. These days, Papa is available, because he has left Poornam and is waiting for his Visa to go to UAE. I did not know that he is going to fly on that day evening. But it should be a sixth sense that asked me to sleep on Papa’s chest in the morning. I’m going to miss that from next day on. Even if I was awaken, I kept on lying on his chest. He thought I’m still sleepy and did not disturb me. But finally I was caught as Amma saw me waken and smiling at her.

All the day, Papa was with me. That day we played a lot together. Do you know, Papa, Amma and Me are very closely tied up? It’s only some financial crisis that put Papa to make a decision to go abroad and work. Although Papa and Amma kept on smiling, they cannot even imagine to be departed for long. But it’s only the requirement of life and time, which make people to take tough decisions.

Papa’s flight was at 3.00 a.m. next day. So we all went to sleep early. At a moment, by a power unknown I woke up. Then I saw, Papa was walking away, waving his hands. My god! If I was not awaken by that time, I could not have even given him a smile and seen off. I thank that unknown power, which woke me up. Papa was then disappeared in the crowd and we went back to home. It is going to be a long span to see my Papa again. Papa I miss you so badly.

19, Dec, 2008: Papa, resigned from Poornam today. He has got a job in UAE and will be leaving for in a month. Poornam was nice place to be for him. He talks much about Poornam to my mom and I’m very familiar with that ‘word’ only and I know nothing more about his office. I have been to there, when Nasra aunty was given a seen off and ere, for my first outing. The second thing for today is: we are to set out for a pilgrimage to Velankanny, one of the major pilgrim centers of Our Lady in India. My Muththamma (muthazi, great grandmother) had promised homage to Her, that I will be shaven off my first hairs before Our Lady at Velankanny. My Papa always laugh at the idea, that Saints or Our Lady of particular place have a special grace and mighty. For him, the presence of God and Saints is similar to all the church and sacred places.

All the day my Amma and Mummy (granny) was busy with packing food and good for travel. By afternoon, Mini aunty, Amma’s cousin and her children joined them. I was happy to see them because they took me outside and made me laugh by funs. In the evening the bus moved to relatives’ home. As usual, I’m given in to my sweet numb. When I was awake, the bus was full with our kith and kin. Aquilin, daughter of Joshi uncle and Bendy aunty was there near me. She called me ”Alaa”. I smiled and her. It’s easy for her to call me Alaa (Allan), but for me, to call the name “Aquilin” was a difficult one. She is of my age, in fact I’m a week elder than her. We shared our biscuits and toffees. Although, I’m elder, she is mightier than me. She wanted to catch my nose and I, her hairs. Our parents were very careful that, we did not get in to a quarrel or a cry. Soon we both went to sleep. Well, that was the best sleep, through out the night I slept upon the chest of my Papa and Amma. They are the most secured place to sleep and rest.

In the morning when I woke up, I jumped into the hands of Grandpa. He took me to the coffee shop. That was a big tender coconut he bought me to drink. It was so sweet and cool. Our stay was already arranged. As soon we’re there, amma removed my clothes and I denied to wear a new one. It was too hot for me, even in that December. Amma and I went in to fight. Finally Papa came to support me, at the same time he did not disappoint Amma too, because I agreed to wear a short trouser. Papa and I went for shopping. To whichever I pointed, he bought me. When we’re back I was tired and fell in sleep.

When I woke up, it was evening and everyone was getting ready to go the Shrine. Amma help me to have a quick bath and we could make it to reach the shrine before the evening mass. There awaited a bitter experience for me, a clean shaven off of my head. As soon as the barber applied water on my hair, I started crying and was trying to slip away from his hands. That resulted in a bruise on my head. It hurt and my cry was louder and loudest. He was very expert that he could manage to give no more hurts to my head. Outside the barbers’ area, a man was standing with a bucket and sandal. Papa fetched a bucket of water from the sea and washed my head and applied sandal on my head. I looked like a Brahmin baby. The sandal provided a refrigerating feel on my skull and it was no more painful. Sister Aunty (Sister Alphonsa), as she is called, the elder sister of my granny, called us for a shopping. In fact she is the official sponsor of the tripJ.

Kilu (Kelvin) bought me some toys. He is 5 year old. I was also given many other toys buy my elder cousins, uncles and aunts. Through out the journey Kilu was behind me to make me happy always and created funs and games. On Sunday evening we packed up. Aquilin was not keeping well. She was tired and was always sleeping. I was dull but entertained that question. “Where is your hair?” I searched for the hair on my skull with my hand. It was an empty land. As soon as they see it, they started laughing and I joined them with my sweet smile.

Some days are gone after my first birthday. I assume, that should be the beginning of the week. I woke up by 8.30 a.m., with a light cry. My Amma used to come immediately after, hearing my sound. But today, I did not see her. Instead my grandma came and picked me up. I was half sleepy and was supported by her shoulder. I rested for while too, thinking that, amma would come at any moment. But, she was vanished all of a sudden.

The day was aging and at times, in flash her memory came in. However, my grandma was behind me. She took me wherever she went. Grandpa was also present. People say, if grandpa is there, I don’t need anyone else. After having something to eat, I had nice bath. And soon I went to sleep again. When I woke up grandma was just near me. We together then spent time on playing with toys. We have some chickens to at our home. We spent time with them as well.

I heard the sound of my papa’s bike by 6 ‘o’ clock in the evening. Yes, it was my papa and amma. She ran to me and kissed me a lot and started feeding. My readers, the upcoming days will be same as today. My amma got a job as teacher in a public school. So for the day, she will not be there. Well, I gotta accustom to the new routine. Waiting for my amma for whole the day L. My papa used to say, “Life is like that. Sometimes it does not come the way we like”.

As my first birthday comes up, I have lots to things to say. I started walking without support, although there is always a chance to fall. On my birthday, my granny’s sister had gifted me a small bicycle. My god, it’s hard to drive. I wonder how my papa drives his much bigger motor bike. What I can possibly do is, to sit on bicycle and the others will push-pull it. Anyway, I’m the driver.

Driving is becoming more passionate for me. In our car, I would like to site near to my grandpa. I seriously watch wahatever he does. AS soon as he vacates, I get in the seat and start rorating the steering and do something with the gear lever. Well, now I know to play the stereo, he he he.

Oct 15, is my birthday. In the morning I went to church with my parents. They bought some sweets and eddibles. As the Holy Mass was over, we went to the nearest orphanage. There we handed over the sweets and eddibles to the mother superior. I just liked that place. There were lots of kids, but elder than me. I played with them for a while.

Papa had arranged a small party in the after. It was at a hotel. Unfortunately my grand parents could not attend it as they had to go to hospital since granny’s sister was hospitalised. At hotel, we came little bit early. I was in the new suit gifted by my parents. It was a light purple designer suit.

In a moment, my god parents, Libin and Feby came. They bought the B’day cake saying “I’m one year old”. We had a nice party. Shyam, my vallyacha and my parents’ classmate, gifted me a nice caterpiiler. Wow, it’s eyes are so big and moving. Happy b’day to me.

That was my first outing. My papa’s friends in Poornam, were to go for an dev tour to Wagamon and Kurisumala. Me and Amma were special invitees. Early in the morning, we went to Papa’s office by bike. I think my Papa seldom checks the fuels status. This time too, he forgot to fill the fuel and on the way, we were stuck. However he manged to reach in time.

That was the first time, I see my papa’s office..lots of aunts and uncles. We board in the tour van. I was astonished to see it. I big van which can have many people, was a matter of wonder for me. Amma sat at the widow seat. I saw trees and men are running back. But in few seconds, I fell asleep.

In the afternoon we reached the place. As soon as we got down, most of us started taking snaps. Well, Thakkudu and I were the stars. Thakkudu is the daughter of Agni Uncle and Priya aunty. She is elder to me. After the snaps we climbed a hill. Well at the top of the hills, it was arranged for our lunch. At the rolling meadows, I want to roll over. But, since I was just 6 months old, my Amma had never allowed me to fly my own way. We had a nice trecking too at the pine forest. When it started raining, we set back out. All the way back, I was sleeping.

For me outing was some visuals. Many people in one bus, lots of trees, smiling aunts and uncles, lots of sounds. What can a 6 month child do more than this.

Oh! that’s too paining. I had fallen before, but this one was to be counted as the real fall because I’m injured. My lips were bruised.

In the evening, my dad and mom were at kitchen and I was around them moving on my new walker. Grand pa & ma were out. Dad was busy with making curry( my dad is a good chef too) and mom was cleaning the dining table. i don’t know where did I get that idea to run behind my mom who was stepping out from kitchen. She didn’t see me following her and there was not a door stop at steps and I didn’t know that I was going to fall. Well it all happened in one second. I fell down over the steps.

I made a big cry immediately after my fall. Dad and Mom got tensed and there was bleeding at my lips. Fortunately, we had a small dispensary near to my home and the doctor was present. He gave me some ointment and syrups. And in some minutes everything became perfect. Well that put a full stop to my wild rides on my walker. Mom or Dad is behind me where ever i go . Well this is just the beginning. And gotta have more
